MEST1 Mock exam: learner reponse

1) Type up any feedback or comments from your paper in full (you do not need to write mark/grade if you do not wish to).
- lacks/needs better points
-missing key words in question- narrative?
-also need to introduce case study+ introduce your industry
2) Did you succeed in meeting or exceeding your target grade in AS Media? If not, how many additional marks do you need across Section A and Section B to achieve your target grade?

around 13 marks needed to achieve target grade
3) Read through the mark scheme. Pay particular attention to pages 5-8 that has anticipated content for each of the questions in Section A. How many of these potential points did you make? Did you successfully answer the questions?

4) Which was your strongest question in Section A? Why did you do better in that particular question?
my strongest question was question 3, and i think this question was my strongest as I understand this question better than others and I was able to link the portrayal of men to the trailer.5) Which was your weakest question in Section A? Again, try and identify why this happened. Did you misinterpret the question? Did you run out of time?
my weakest question was question 2, I think with this question I didn't understand the question as thoroughly as other questions, and I didn't make a proper link to the question
6) Rewrite your answer for your weakest question in Section A. This should now be a detailed, three-paragraph 12-mark response.
The link with other brands are used promote call of duty ghosts by linking to different audiences in order to expand the fan base of call of duty ghosts. For example Meagan fox is seen as a popular figure when based around her physical appearance to attract a particular male performance.by using her inclusion in the trailer it is automatically improves the output of the game and this could link to one of Gillian Dyer's brand values of rich and glamorous.

In comparison, the use of Meagan fox in this film is instrumental due to the fan base she has received from her previous movies, and this could link to Meagan fox’s brand as she is a notable Hollywood star, she is adding call of duty ghosts an additional form of promotion.  Meagan fox would appeal to a female fan base, and this could link to Gillian Dyer’s brand value of beautiful women as beautiful women would feel inspired by the fact all it needs is mental intelligence to play this game and indeed nothing else.

More so I feel The setting used of Las Vegas and four males running around having fun suggests the game is about forms a use of relaxation and clarification for males. For example, Las Vegas has had films like Think like a man 2 and The Hangover where males seem to enjoy themselves whilst exploring the suburbs of vegas, and this could ultimately attract an audience  who want to divert themselves from their routine lives and take a visit to this specific area.

7) Now look at the mark scheme for Section B. Did you cover all three media platforms? Did you write about three different films in your essay?

yes I did cover all three media platforms

MEST1 Section B: Independent case study

The Inbetweeners Movie (2011) - £3.5m budget

The basics

1) What is the name of the film, the director and notable stars?

Ben Palmer

Simon Bird
James Buckley
Blake Harrison
Joe Thomas

2) When was it released?

2011

3) What genre is the film? What are the generic conventions that tell you the film belongs to this genre?
this film is a comedy based film

4) What was the critical reception? What is the film rated on IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes?
73% Metacritic 92% Rotten Tomatoes 8.4/10 IMDB

1) Write a close-textual analysis of the trailer using the MIGRAIN key concepts of Media Studies.
The trailer has the four main characters go on holiday with their same style of clothing and approach to women. The humour comes from the 'lad banter' that we see in the series as well as the trailer which would act as a positive for  the audience. The representation would be quite positively stupid as they involve themselves in silly activity which leads to unethical consequences.

2) Find examples of television promotion on YouTube (adverts, chat shows, ‘red carpet’ interviews etc.) and post them to your blog along with an explanation of how these promote the film.

3) Does the broadcast promotion use stars to create interest in the film?
Each of the characters have their own personalities which still fits the stereotype of these young adult/teens being immature. The genre of the film is comedy, drama and this is evident from the opening scene as we see inappropriate humour. The representation of British youth is what we would expect to see because of the jokes about women and sex
Print

This film poster gives the insight to the names of the main stars, and below their names is the title which could depict each actor plays a big role to the film. Their is also the top saying in which states "out of school. out their league" I think this is a smart title to unfold due to the immaturity in which each character depicts in the film.

This poster gives the audience the impression that the four characters unique characters will on go on a settled holiday. An target market could have the ability to signify this due to the textual content which says 'This summer time' which suggests they may be going on holiday. also, the background includes bars and golf equipment which most in all likelihood could be in Spain in which British people experience visiting inside the summer as a family or as pals who're going to lose their heads. the colours upload to the assumption because they're vibrant and wonderful however intertwine with the dark coloration of pink which implies the characters may be disorientated. further, their apparel is uncommon to a holiday setting which suits well with each of their personalities and sense of dressing as seen inside the show. this would work nicely with the target audience as they might endorse some of the humor will come from their appearance and as its their first time occurring holiday with out mother and father it is able to be comical. The film's emblem is built thru the use of the four principal characters. that is performed through placing them on every piece of advertisement the film has produced. therefore, an target audience could be capable of associate them with the film instantly even when looking the TV show. this is effective because it's easier for the distributors to construct an target audience for the movie as there already is an target audience willing to observe the movie. The brand suggests the movie might be a larger fulfillment than the display as the audience will see the characters in a different environment to the one inside the display. therefore, it implies the film producers have dedicated their lives into the film as they have recorded the movie overseas due to the background.

E-media

There has been a hash tag used for the audiences of the display and movie to feature their mind about the film earlier than its release (#intbetweeners). for instance, on Instagram audiences be capable of view images with the hashtag which will have been associated with the film which provides to the hype over the film. additionally, no Twitter we get a better knowledge of the film's target market as they college students luck on their GCSE outcomes they had been going to get hold of inside the summer time. glaringly this message became geared toward teens who would be around the equal age because the characters from the movie. This enables sell the film because those students mainly folks that are fans of the television collection would sense as though the group cares approximately them and have showed their love thru wishing them properly on their lifestyles changing outcomes. This creates a superb emblem picture for the movie because it implies the people running on the film simply care approximately their enthusiasts and the film isn't simplest being made for the money. I couldn't discover the films website so i have used facebook as a representation of what they might/did contain on their website. There are movies and clips from television series which is synergy between the series and the movie which allows advertising due to the fact enthusiasts of the show would watch the clips and enjoy them. this will result in them trying to observe the movie as they recognise how an awful lot they enjoy the tv series. There are pix from the movie which have a unique appearance to the tv display so audiences can identify the difference between the display and the movie. as an example, snap shots from the film have a brighter more amazing look to symbolise a summer season holiday and tv display might be more stupid representing the characters lives.
Audience

The target market centered for the movie would be teens and slightly older adults (25-35 years of age) as they could be able to relate to the characters extra without difficulty and build a non-public courting. on the demographics this would be C1 and C2 because they could go on a long holiday just like the 4 characters do and stay ordinary, felony and non costly lives. at the pshychographics I consider aspires and explores could watch the film as these companies of people might move on holidays to revel in existence like their role models which could be a similar holiday to the only the characters visited. The move media promoting targets this audience through the usage of era as young humans use it constantly. because of this they could be probable to look the advertisement for the trailer on YouTube and tell their pals about it. consequently, target market and knowledge of the film would be improved via the usage of e-media to catch young people interest. additionally, the channels the movie may be advertised on might be applicable to the audience of their film. as an instance, the ad would most in all likelihood come on at watershed instances on channels: four,E4 ect. For a British target audience the film might pride audiences thru the characters the use of British 'lad banter' because audiences might have the ability to relate and apprehend. For an global target audience, their pleasures from the film would be understanding the ways young British adult males act around each other and girls (British adolescents lifestyle). The audience might also revel in a movie like American Pie as it is also a tv series but it is an American production. It involves excited teens flirting and looking to get a live parents want them to have.

Institution

Which company distributed the film in the UK? What other films have they distributed?
The distributors of the film in the UK were Channel 4 and they usually distribute/ promote similar content. This would be shows/films based on comedy like Jimmy Car ans Russel Howard Live.

What was the budget for the film?
the budget for the film was £3.5 million which is significantly higher than an arthouse film. The Inbetweeners movie was financially successful as their audience was already generated through the television series
How successful was the film financially? Why do you think this was?

Was this film more successful in the UK or worldwide/USA? Why do you think this is?
he film was more successful in the UK as this audience would be able to relate to the four characters from the movie. This is because they would understand the British culture and the slang used

What certificate was the film given (12A, 18 etc.)? What was the reason for this certificate? Is the certification important for this film in terms of targeting its audience? Why?
It is rated 15 because it does include inappropriate language and fighting but not a lot of it.

Representation
The representation of British children was that they're reckless and immature. this is shown through the quantity of ingesting they consume on the holiday. also, most (if not all) of the children of excursion have been British white humans and that is a real stereotype of younger white humans going to other european nations to birthday party. Perkins' idea tells us the stereotype could be real. The British representations inside the Inbetweeners differs from unwell manors because the Inbetweeners has a more criminal environment than Ill manors. An example of illegal activities in ill manors are the medication, prostitution and guns. whereas The Inbetweeners consists of some violence and sexual scenes but they are not as emphasized or giant as ill manors.

March PPE: learner response tasks

learner response for question 4-

Which was your strongest question? Why did you do better in that particular question?

my strongest question was question 2 as we were discussing about media audiences and there are different aspects to talk about as considerably the question is asking for peoples views on disabilities

Which was your weakest question? Again, try and identify why this happened. Did you misinterpret the question? Did you run out of time?

I think my weakest question was question 4 as I didn't go into a specific amount of detail and I didn't link it to the question in the way in which I was supposed to. From my view I think I misinterpreted the question but I did.I feel I did rush the question as I don't feel I got the clear understanding of the question.

In the trailer I feel the use of the build up and preparation for the paralympic games are represented as much anticipated and international sporting event which is a in demand event. In contrast the use of build up and preparation for this games could link to the shots of the athletes training as intergalactic elites. By using these images, an alternative representation is also created of the Paralympics of it being exciting and a powerful event which defies the typical stereotypes of the Paralympics being not as competitive compared to the Olympics. Positive stereotypes are reinforced as the Paralympics are instead represented in a more positive light i.e. edgy and gritty with determined athletes.

Discriminatory language and behaviour

The change between the 18 certificates and 15 certificates is that movies rated 15 have restrictions as to how a lot of the above may also be proven and some of it cannot be proven at all. 15 certificates are suitable for people 15 years of age and over.

Why was Ill Manors given an 18 certificate? How might this have affected the Ill Manors target viewers and business success?Unwell Manors was once given an 18 certificate since the film includes robust language which were delivered with aggression and violence. For this reason, exceeding the guidelines for the 15 certificate. This could have affected the film as it was precise at a moderately more youthful audience but they don't have been ready to see it on the cinema. However, regardless of this it failed to result its commercial success.

The film contains very strong language throughout, there are scenes of fighting, including shooting, graphic images, sex references, and uses of drugs.

What are the advantages and disadvantages for a film in being given an 18 certificate?
Films given a 18 certificate could limit the success and profitability of the film as when released in cinemas, younger audiences would not be able to see it.

A Field In England: the appeal of arthouse film

What are some of the suggested audience pleasures for arthouse film?

The art cinema is much less involved with action than response; it is a cinema of psychological effects looking for their explanations. Arthouse movie is strongly narrative driven and persona pushed where as Hollywood film is purely entertainment. Although some arthouse movies are overseas, Bourdieu prompt that having cultural competences to read difficult texts offers the individual cultural capital.

Why do some audiences struggle with arthouse film? Refer to some media theory here (there are some important media theories discussed in the article itself).

Arthouse film is extra creative instead commercial in personality, which makes it much less appealing to mainstream audiences. As a result of some films being foreign, the usage of subtitles can also be an irritant to some viewers, might be probably the most working class audiences. David Bordwell suggested that 'the art cinema is much less concerned with motion than reaction; it is a cinema of psychological effects in search of their causes'. So the producers of artwork cinema will not be in the trade of constructing it convenient for audiences to learn the movie.

To what extent is arthouse film only for the middle classes and older audiences?

Why might this be the case?
According to Bourdieu, having such ‘cultural competences’ to read difficult texts gave the individual cultural capital and is one of the ways in which social class is emphasised. Therefore, because arthouse film is considered so highbrow and film that has a deeper contextual meaning, which people with cultural capital can understand, it appeals to middle class audiences more. In terms of the older audiences ,you would say that considering the fact that arthouse film is almost always documentaries or movies that are viewed a section of 'artwork' or visually appealing, it suits their interests greater than any individual from a more youthful generation.

What type of audience would A Field In England appeal to?

I think that it is targeted on the older generation because of the surroundings of the seventeenth century and the usage of the black and white filming. In phrases of demographics it will appeal to extra of a middle class, ABC1 audience. Nevertheless, you might argue that it would appeal to the younger audience as there's use of medications, which is stereotypically linked with the more youthful new release nowadays.

MEST1 Section B: A Field In England

A film distributor’s marketing campaign is very significant to the films success as without effective distribution, film product rarely finds an audience.

The distributor’s challenge for a film launch can thus be crudely summarised as:
1. identifying the film’s audience
2. estimating revenue potential across all platforms
3. building awareness and maintaining interest
4. persuading exhibitors to present the film
5. persuading the audience to watch it.

This campaign is complex and costly work, involving thorough research and creativity. A Field in England’s unique approach to distribution certainly generated media interest and debate. clearly A Field in England is offering a first glimpse into the future for certain kinds of film. A Field in England added value to its purchase by having a live Q&A event followed the Ritzy Picturehouse screening in Brixton, London and was shown live to the other Picturehouse venues. A Field in England made a comfortable £21,399 over its opening weekend and played to sold-out crowds at some key inner-city venues. A Field in England was also the number one trending topic on Twitter.

How was A Field In England’s release different to typical film releases?

It was different as it used a simultaneous release – in cinemas, on DVD and all the rest- instead of a staggered release.

What are the advantages to releasing the film across all platforms on the same day?
The advantages is that it creates controversy and hypes up the films release as it is different to the mainstream/typical way of releasing a film. This means that audiences will find this interesting and either watch it at the cinema or buy it on DVD or Blu-ray or even on TV.
What are the disadvantages to this approach?
The disadvantages is that the audience wont react to its controversial release as planned and resort to a cheaper way of watching the film, such as TV, therefore the film wont make as much profit/revenue as people wont go and watch it at the cinema or buy it on dvd etc.
What target audience would A Field In England be aimed at? Demographics and Psychographics.
The target audience would be mainly middle-class as it is an independent art house film which attracts an ABC1 type of audience. In terms of psychographics groups succeeder's would be attracted to this film as they are part of a higher management.

Ill Manors e-media: Tag London campaign

Summarise the Ill Manors Tag London campaign in 100 of your own words.
How does the Ill Manors Tag London campaign help to promote the film?
What synergy (links) can you find between the Tag London campaign and other texts you have studied as part of the Ill Manors case study?
Why might user-generated campaigns like this be more successful than traditional media campaigns?
Choose FIVE of the tweets above and for each one write what target audience the tweet could appeal to (demographics/psychographics) and then link the tweet to one other media text you have studied as part of the Ill Manors case study (TEDx lecture, music video etc.) Justify your link for each tweet using examples from the film/promotional material.

1.The ILL Manors Tag London campaign, is a campaign that puts together both traditional and digital media in order to promote a project. The campaign Tag London works with a company called Powster. The campaign started up a Twitter trend with the hashtag #ILLMANORS in order to help promote the film. They asked people of the public to tweet things to this account and voice their opinions on what they thought of the album. The campaign managed to reach 5,000 entries in the space of five days. The tweets were then projected onto buildings around London, and then put back onto twitter. Furthermore, to help promote the album Atlantic Records teamed up with a live stream production company Love Live to deliver a live stream event of the album launch party to YouTube. The campaign worked closely with Twitter in order to help promote the album using the hashtag #illmanors album. Using Twitter to help promote the album was an ideal platform to reach a socially and politically connected audience.

2.The marketing campaign helped promote the film because it

constantly showed the Ill Manors title this was effective in attracting the audience as they would see some of their own tweets on iconic landmarks, this would also show personal relationships. It was also a good idea as it made use of a social networking site that Ill Manor's core target audience would most likely be using.

3. There is synergy between the tag London campaign and other texts such as the soundtrack of the film and concept of the film. For example, in the tag London campaign video the same soundtrack is used to promote the film. In terms of the concept of the film, there is a link to the political aspect of the film as twitter users are encouraged to voice their views and opinions on the then current climate in the UK after events such as the London riots which is also presented in the film.

4. By having user generated content campaign like this it encourages his fans and different audience into engaging with PlanB which he then promises them that their tweets will be shown in different location within london and other people which makes the audience feel like they are a part of the community and PlanB cares about their opinion. Furthermore, by changing the subject to a political than music or the film it helps him gain more attention for his work and it also enhances the TagLondon campaign which will attract a niche audience.

5."THE RECESSION IS A WORLD SCHEME TO KEEP THE POOR, POOR. THE RICH OF THIS WORD HAVE NEVER BEING RICHER. #ILLMANORS"

This relate to the strugglers and it links to the TEDx lecture as its all based on the fact that the government are the ones that are cutting benefits and closing down government funded youth centres.

"ON PRINCIPLE, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TEENAGER LOOTING TRAINERS AND A POLITICIAN STEALING THOUSANDS IN EXPENSES? #ILLMANORS"

This tweet relates to aspirers because they are the young adults that want to get the high end jobs and will be the ones to make the change in the future. It links to Plan B's interview on the Jonathon ross show when he stands against the government stating that they are corrupt.

"LONDON IS CALLING, THE CITY IS CRUMBLING #ILLMANORS"
.
This tweet relates to the Jonathan ross show as he talks about how London as a city is very corrupt and needs change he also says how the government are not doing anything to help the less fortunate.

"@ILLMANORS #ILLMANORS OLYMPICS GONNA LEAVE US WITH A LARGE BILL A LARGE VENUE THAT WILL CLOSE BY THE NXT PROJECT AND IS A TERRORISTS WISH,"

This tweet refers to the psychographic group of strugglers this is because the the Olympic stadium was built next to an estate to try and make South London glamorous instead of paying attention to middle - lower class people who are living in estates.

Ill Manors e-media: website analysis

What examples can you find of the Ill Manors brand on the Ill Manors website homepage screen grab above?

The ill manors logo is seen on the left corner of the website, which is an iconic image as it is seen across many of the different types of media platforms such as the trailer, the album, film posters etc.

How does the website encourage the audience to buy or interact with Ill Manors products?
Things like graffiti would allow viewers to associate their lives with those in the picture because they may use the cans to spray paint walls and damage society and this links to stereotypes in society as it links to a clear image which is viewed clearly by members of society.

Look at Plan B's official website. How does it use social media in terms of content and design?

The website features all its social media links on the top right of the page in addition generally the whole page focuses on links to Plan B himself, his music and most of the links are from Plan B's you tube page which are embedded and ready to watch.

Scroll back through the wall to look at posts from around the release date of Ill Manors. How does this statement on Ill Manors link to other texts we have studied as part of this case study? Do you agree with his claim that he "won't justify" the riots?

In this article we see Plan B's true ideological beliefs being represented and it does not do what we expected. Plan B mainly depicts his views on the riots in a more complex way as he is almost acknowledging the reasons in which why people were rioting and their rage and anger for the government and the lack of opportunities they have.

Why do you think social media is overtaking official websites in terms of film promotion?
I believe that social media is overtaking official websites because nowadays anyone can make a compelling argument over social media whether that is on YouTube or twitter people can express their opinions however outrageous they same, in comparison to a official website where comments are viewed and can be deleted.

ill manors print: branding

  1. What are the key conventions that help you identify the print text (e.g. title, central image, review quotes etc.)?
  2. What design features help identify the Ill Manors brand?
  3. What examples of synergy can you find with the broadcast platform or other print examples?
There is synergy between the DVD Extras and this movie poster, mainly because they both illustrate the films slogan in a manner which is considered significant to the audience.

  • Title of Film
  • Central Image/s
colour scheme is dark
slogan presented clearly

  1. What are the key conventions that help you identify the print text (e.g. title, central image, review quotes etc.)?
  2. What design features help identify the Ill Manors brand?
  3. What examples of synergy can you find with the broadcast platform or other print examples?
The design features include the logo that is presented at the centre which would suggest that it would be the main focus point on the film. Inn addition to this, Riz Ahmed is present which could suggest that his character is a part of the branding for Ill Manors.

  • Title of Film
  • Central Image/s
  • Name of artist
  • Reviews & Star Ratings
release date is clearly presented as well as the synergy presented throughout the trailer as well as the print advertisements.

  1. What are the key conventions that help you identify the print text (e.g. title, central image, review quotes etc.)?
  2. What design features help identify the Ill Manors brand?
  3. What examples of synergy can you find with the broadcast platform or other print examples?
  • Title of Film
  • Central Image/s
  • Names of Main Characters
  • Reviews & Star Ratings
The synergy is explored with Riz Ahmed as he is seen on the Ill Manors Website as well as the fact that he is in more than one film which helps the audience identify him with his other projects.

The use of the 'ill' being written in the same format and same font as the other print designs makes it easily identifiable and makes it clear this print example is mainly aiming at attracting Plan B's fans, more so the terrific effect used where Riz Ahmed is seen vomiting into the words 'ILL' signal a great transitional effect.

Ill manors- print platform

1) Identify the target audience (demographics/psychographics) for this magazine. How is that particular audience attracted?
The target audience is mostly male, aged 17-50. The fact they are focusing on Ben Drews weight loss links to the magazine stereotypes typically as the men's health magazine focuses on the health and fitness of particular individuals and offers techniques on achieving physical greatness.

2) Does the article do more than just entertain? How? (Think of Uses and Gratifications theory) What audience pleasures does the article offer?

The magazine article both informs and entertains the reader as it gives us an insight into a celebrity's lifestyle. It performs some kind of escapism for the reader through the words of Plan B.

3) What codes/conventions of print interviews can you find in the article?

The article has a image of Plan B in a medium shot, the background and him are shown in even balance. This is the typical shot type that is used in most magazines, and I think that it is emphasising Plan B's dramatic weight loss that he refers to in the article.

4) How is narrative used to tell a story in each interview? Clue: what is it that keeps the reader interested in the article to the very end?
Plan B's personal experience keeps the reader interested and how it is split into small sections so that it is easy for reader to enjoy without getting bored.
5) What synergy can you find between this text and the broadcast examples we have studied so far?

There is synergy between this interview and the Radio Interview with Fearne Cotton, they both focus on Plan B as a person and his life rather than the music and his film career

1) Identify the target audience (demographics/psychographics) for this magazine. How is that particular audience attracted?
The core demographic would be the young adult market, aged between 15-30. I think in terms of psychographics, the magazine would appeal to explorers as the magazine focuses on individualism.

2) Does the article do more than just entertain? How? (Think of Uses and Gratifications theory) What audience pleasures does the article offer?

Yes, this article creates a personal relationship between the audience as he mentions his past as a child living in the suburbs of Britain, which will appeal to the younger demographic and therefore encourage them to then go watch the film.

3) What codes/conventions of print interviews can you find in the article?
The two  contradicting images of Plan B could cause some controversy. This is because he is pictured with a cigarette and hoodie in one, which is stereotypically a negative image of the youth, and then suited and booted in the next. This could show the younger audience that change is possible.

4) How is narrative used to tell a story in each interview? Clue: what is it that keeps the reader interested in the article to the very end?
Again, I think the fact that Plan B talks about his childhood etc makes the reader more intrigued therefore they carry on reading as his childhood is very interesting. He also talks about his political views and also links what he is saying to the movie, which therefore encourages the readers to go watch the movie.
5) What synergy can you find between this text and the broadcast examples we have studied so far?

There is this cross promotion between the music and the film for ill Manors and the fact that he is being featured in a music magazine which therefore makes readers interested in his music.

http://www.theguardian.com/music/2012/jun/07/plan-b-love-directing-art-lives

A typical Guardian audience may be quite a young one/ urban. The psychographic may be more suited to explorers as well so the paper isn't necessarily  targeting anyone mainstream. It would appeal to both males and females, at a 60/40 male to female percentage, it would range from 16-40 year old readers who are in ABC1 clerical groups. It would also appeal to reformers and succeeders as they would be ones who want to seek control and aspire to reach high goals and also those who are willing to seek enlightenment in order for personal growth.
  • Does it do more then entertain/ what is the audience appeal?
As the Guardian is more a of left wing tabloid newspaper it's intentions of this type of film genre would be quite negative and this article does not entertain but inform, but it informs and gives off only a one sided negative opinion in which shorthand stereotypes are used to give off a negative representation of lower class people.
  • codes/conventions of print interview?
Like most newspaper articles, there isn't any evident question and answer formats but it seems like one long piece of text with more sophisticated language used in comparison to other magazines.

1. The daily mail would target mainly middle class people who are around the ages of middle-aged, they would politically be right winged. The psychographic group would be succeeder's as they are more likely to have a middle class status or higher in society.

2. The article is mocking the film and has a very negative view on it. The film is described as being a very bad EastEnders episode, the article itself is causing a moral panic about people who are living on council estates and completely getting rid of the initial message Plan B set out.

3. The article is set out to be a mockery and made to be a big joke, the film is almost described as being a comedy sketch rather than talking about the issues that Plan B is trying to tackle with the youth.

4. The audience would be right wing so probably in favour of the conservative party, they would be more interested in the negative things that the article talks about rather than talking about Plan B and his intentions.

5. The synergy that we can see is having the trailer in the article for the audience to see, even though this was there to be used to mock the actual film itself it could promote a niche audience who disagree with this and end up watching the film instead.

Ill Manors broadcast: music video analysis

Media forms
How is it common of a song video?

The conventions in Plan B's music video all include those that we'd clearly companion with a mean track video. those include such things as fast tempo modifying and beat matching, which create target audience interest. the quick pace additionally complements the fast judgement that society have on those younger people. on this unique video, a real life scenario takes region which could be very symbolic as the equal aspect happens in his song video. notwithstanding this, the acting is not playing around as additionally they use the London Riots to get their points across. The artist being the primary protagonist is likewise some other common function of a track video, in this example Plan B, who we see most of in the video. a number of the characters within the movie also seem and make cameos inside the movie, which in turn promotes the movie even further. The music video is used to present out a sturdy message about youths that live on council estates, that's proven by using the powerful lyrics which might be stated within the video. This nearly gives it an detail of a someone, Plan B in this situation, telling the target market a tale via his phrases and how they link with in what is going on inside the video. the usage of direct address may be very effective within this video, as a viewer, we are more engaged inside a video if we experience as although we're at once spoken to, which makes the video all the greater effective and all of the greater captivating. The scenes which might be featured in the video fit the representations which might be made via the lyrics of the tune. London is shown as being very dark and occasionally cruel, which represents people that stay in London in a opportunity stereotype. It does now not show London as being a rich, capitalist city, that is typically represented. this could had been performed intentionally, to maybe emphasise Plan B's feelings and views toward the decrease-instructions.

Media Representations
How does it represent the London riots/rioters?

It represents the London Rioters as  and excessively threatening which therefore may additionally motive the photograph of Londoners to be of the equal illustration. This terrible illustration of London demanding situations the typical representation of London being a elegant wealthy town. It also indicates an opportunity representation of the police as they are seen as violent and competitive and indicates the London police to be corrupted and therefore supports Perkins idea that stereotypes may be changed. but you could say that due to the fact the rioters are all visible as young humans, which again produces a negative representation of young humans and consequently confirms the stereotype that younger people are rebels and violent. This therefore reinforces the stereotype that younger human beings are dangerous. This also helps Medhursts' theory because the target audience can without delay link the concept of youths to the riots. The mise-en-scene indicates most of the people carrying tracksuits and hoodies which consequently represents gown in a negative way as target market members might confirm the stereotype that younger humans in a hood are risky.  The manner wherein the rioters act turned into intentionally in order to make a point and to combat for what they believed in. the harmful of automobiles, the smoking and the fires show that they've no 'manors', and therefore holds a reference to the name of the song: 'Ill Manors'. It also conveys the fright that that Britain's citizens felt when they saw what become happening, as harmless humans have been being endangered because of the misjudgments of the politicians and British government.

Media Audiences
What audience pleasures does the music video provide?

The video may additionally offer target audience pleasures inside the scenes where the police are conveyed to be inferior and less powerful than the youngsters. as the primary concept of young adults disliking police and the colossal hatred toward them for many elements together with stereotyping and racism; there are scenes in which the police are outnumbered and are visible less dominant. those scenes would be wonderful to the younger audiences of the video as it shows a few sort of pattern closer to similar a long time and youth hating at the neighborhood authority. The scenes wherein the police are attacked could play a big role in presenting target market satisfaction and humour within the target market's attitude. a few audiences, in particular the older era or people from an awful lot wealthier backgrounds, might use it for academic functions as this acts as poverty tourism and teaches humans what's without a doubt like to be a part of the kids lifestyle that is in deprived regions of London. however, some target audience individuals could watch the video honestly due to the fact they prefer Plan B as an artist and like the manner his tune sounds and would therefore use it for pride as opposed to for academic functions.

Media institutions

The video helps promote the movie via the same name. Likewise, the shorthand for identification (Medhurst) accentuates the scenes that could arise in the film. This promotes the film as for the people who have been thru the riots might want to peer how they have been represented as, and whether their stereotype is being subverted or reinforced. additionally, the truth that the characters make appearances/cameos inside the track video promotes the film as well. The truth that the soundtrack is used both in the film and in the trailer enables it sell each other, which hyperlinks with the idea of synergy and move advertising.  moreover the reality that Plan B himself is directing the movie and appears in both the trailer and the movie, which he performs the soundtrack to in each, again move promotes itself as enthusiasts of Plan Bs track, once hearing his album, could then cross watch the movie. This would be the same for film enthusiasts as target market members can also see the movie first being promoted on Twitter, Instagram and different social networking structures and might consequently find approximately the track video.

ill Manors (album) is a soundtrack recorded by means of Ben Drew, additionally known as the song personality: Ben Drew. The album changed into launched in 2012, under the label Warner Bros united kingdom. The album became produced by using Plan B himself and Al Shux, a songwriter from London who has labored with artists including Jay Z and Lana Del Ray. The album is particularly a hip-hop and rap styled genre, but functions a group of grime and electronica

learner response

3. The illustration of own family inside the film is they're represented as a unit and are liable for the decisions every family member makes. moreover family in this film are represented as very gender-biased within the feel that is seen that the male figure is the only who's making the decision not to put on a seat belt and he in the long run has the strength to achieve this while if it became the girl alternatively their might were sturdy appeals from the male figure, this is an example of stereotypes in society.

furthermore the own family in this movie are represented as Caucasian, and this may also characterize the problems illustrated in society and there could can be hints Caucasian are represented as the 'best own family' and have the great installation to be an appropriate function models.

On the nutshell I experience the representation of circle of relatives in this film may also be destructible in the feel that it suggests the daughter and mother saving the father, so this may suggest the circle of relatives bond is difficult to break.
